Swapping lives it a story about two women, Amber Winslow and Vicky Townsley, who do just as the title suggests - they swap lives.
Amber is your typical high-class, suburban Connecticut housewife with a picture perfect marriage and family. She fills her days with League meetings, charity events, shuttling her two children to overly scheduled classes and camps, and by spending her husbands money on expensive designer clothes.
Vicky lives the fabulous single life in London. She works as a features editor at Poise!, a UK womens' magazine and is in search of the married life. At 35, she feels like her time is running out and would give anything to see what it's like to be married - to see if it's really what she wants.
The head editor at Poise! sees great potential in Vickys idea and has her write an article about her search for the perfect person to swap with. Richard, Ambers gorgeous and loving husband, happens to pick up that very issue of Poise! for his wife. Amber then reads the article and writes a letter, hoping this will be her chance to get out of the rut she's been in lately - thinking there's no way she'll be chosen.
Well, as luck would have it, Vicky ends up choosing Amber. The embark on their month long swap - leaving Vicky to step into Ambers married family life, and Amber to step into the single life that she's forgotten after all her years of marriage.
Throughout the swap, both women find out a lot about themselves and what they're really meant to be in life. Is the grass really greener on the other side? You'll have to read this book to find out!
Would I recommend this book? Yes, absolutely. It's a bit of a slow start and it is rather long, but it's a worth while read. It gives you a perspective on what might happen if you were to step into someone elses life. Not to mention that it's full of humor, which is a must for chick lit in my opinion.
