"Posh" by Lucy Jackson
This book follows the lives of Kathryn "Lazy" Hoffman, Julianne & Dee Coopersmith, Susan & Michael Avery and Morgan Goldfine. We get a peek into their everyday lives in Manhattan's privileged Upper East Side.
Lazy is the headmistress at the exclusive Griffin School. She's in her forties, married and having an affair - but she doesn't even know why. You follow Lazy in her downward spiral all the way to her potentially happy ending.
Julianne is the 18 year old daughter of the over protective Dee. Once upon a time, Dee was a a successful novelist, but now resorts to driving a taxi to provide for her and her daughter. Julianne attends Griffin with the help of a scholarship and money from her father, whom she hasn't seen in years. Together, they live in a tiny one bedroom apartment - a far cry from Juliannes classmates who have more space and money than they know what to do with.
Michael is the son of Susan Avery. Michael is convinced that his parents don't love him anymore and his mother has more affection for her ugly dog than for her own son. This is a family that doesn't have a happy ending. Susan strikes up a surprising friendship with Dee Coopersmith.
Michael and Julianne are a couple, with a couple of issues. Michael has been diagnosed as bipolar and relies on Julianne to help him through everything. But a teenage relationship can only take so much emotional hardship before everything falls apart.
Morgan Goldfine is Juliannes over privileged best friend. Her mother recently passed way due to cancer and Morgan doesn't deal with it well. She relies on Julianne and does everything she can to force her out of her relationship with Michael.
Would I recommend this book?
I guess so. Honestly, there wasn't too much of a storyline. Everything was very broken up and a tad confusing. My favorite story was that of Julianne, that one just really struck a chord for me. I looked at this book as the more serious side of Gossip Girl. The dark underbelly of the Upper East Side.
